Simply double click on STREAD.PRG and select the STReport which you want to read. The program has online help at all points. The program permits very quick loading of text files so that it is almost as quick to use as the desk top <SHOW FILE> option. It is however vastly more sophisticated than the desk top reader, since it permits you to go back and forth from one page to the next or previous page. It also permits you to jump forward or back to any page number. The program does not scroll a page on screen but displays it all at once, this greatly diminishes eye fatigue while reading long texts. The title of the text being read as well as the present page number and last page number are displayed on the last line of the screen. A book like frame has been added around the text to create a more pleasant reading environment. Page changes, either forward or backward are graphically displayed by a figurative page flipping of the right or left topmost corner. Glenn Brown in the NCAUG Ottawa Newsletter has said it is one of the best educational program he has seen. Writing in RESET (Vol 1 Issue #3 P14-15) Bob Thompson gave a very good review and pointed out in particular the "excellent user interface". NOTE: As of January 31 1989 version 2.0 of the program is current -The shareware version of this program only provides the data base for Europe. N.A. Cylindrical Projection For any of these maps you have access to a range of functions which are only possible using the rapid analysis and graphic power of a computer such as the ATARI ST. You can learn about all the countries in the world. Not only are there maps available, but there is also a full data base of useful facts concerning each country. There are 20 items of standard information from the United Nations office of statistics. You will find facts on: MAJOR RELIGIONS MAJOR LANGUAGES NAME OF CAPITAL POPULATION GROWTH RATES OF POPULATION LIFE EXPECTANCY (men and women) DOCTORS PER CAPITA LITERACY RATES (men and women) LAND BASE CROP LAND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION GNP MILITARY SPENDING PER CAPITA etc... Not only can you view these facts, but you can plot them on the maps. You can also compare countries, search facts to be plotted, order lists alphabetically or by size etc.. All the facts can be displayed on the screen and compared or rank ordered between countries. You can update facts or insert new information in free fields. You can also create your own data base without affecting the standard base provided with the program. Geography Tutor also offers you a Learning mode. In it, you are asked to point and click to find countries or capitals (at your choice). This note and the manual will explain some of the features of Geography Tutor. Feel free to experiment with the numerous options offered in the Main Menu. That is the best way to learn. GEOGRAPHY TUTOR OPERATIONS -Geography Tutor will work on all ST and MEGA models in Monochrome of Medium Resolu⇧éנî⇧Ç⇦נÇÃØ2¨ù╱à⓪╱à╱à'Õ2¨0´4ÃÃ9¥⓪⓪⓪⓪⓪⓪⓪╱à⓪⓪⓪⓪⓪⓪⑥½œ2Ã⓪<Ã´É0¨2É0¨ŒØØ⓪:7É1hoose which continent you wish to study a standard files select box will appear on screen. If the continent you are looking for (from the list on page 1) does not appear ,switch to the other disk, and click on the file refresh bar. (The other disk is available from the author) -The main program disks offers a choice among the following: WHOLE WORLD AFRICA STATES(U.S.A) AND PROVINCES (CANADA) EUROPE (including European S.S.R.) NORTH AMERICA (including Central America and The Carribean) SOUTH AMERICA (including Central America ASIA -The Mouse is used extensively and the functions of each button (or both buttons together) are indicated at the bottom right hand corner of every screen. In general the left mouse button is indicated as <L>, the right as <R> and both as <L+R>. The Escape key <Esc> can always be used to return to the main menu. -Double click on "GEOGRAPH.PRG" to start. THE GEOGRAPHY TUTOR MAIN MENU -AUTHOR : ~AUTHOR ID. ~UP TO 6 ACCESSORIES -FILES : ~CHANGE CONTINENT Permits changing to any of the available continental or detailed country files. ~SHOW WORLD Shows map of world with identification of all continents. ~ADD FACTS Permits the addition of facts concerning any country. There are 20 headings and four free form note spaces provided. Saving these facts will not change the standard data base. ~CHANGE COLOURS Permits changing to any land and sea colours in medium resolution mode. ~QUIT Will quit normally if no new facts have been added. Otherwise will query user about saving new facts entered. If facts are saved, the program will henceforth query the user about loading this fact base whenever this continent is chosen. -LEARNING: ~POINT AND TELL Left mouse will identify country and capital right mouse will give more facts from data base, both buttons back to menu. ~COUNTRIES Will quiz user on countries. Keeps total of right and wrong answers and average score ~CAPITALS As above but quiz on capitals. -COMPARE: ~SEARCH FACTS Permits a search of any text or numeric string. Will then highlight on the map the countries which satisfy the search criteria. On request will display all known information for each country identified in the search. ~FIND SMALLEST Highlights on the map, the smallest of any numerical element from the data base. ~FIND LARGEST Highlights largest as above. ~RANK ORDER ONE Compares any chosen country to the rest or the map for any one of the numerical elements from the data base. On request, will then provide a list of all countries in alphabetical or size order. ~RANK ORDER ALL Compares all countries of a map and ranks them by quintile (20% groups). As above, will also provide an alphabetical or size order list upon request. This program is designed to help the user learn, revise or check the proper conjugation of all Spanish verbs. The author believes that learning with your computer should be made as easy and enjoyable as possible. The program is initialized to communicate its instructions to you in English. If you prefer to communicate in French, Spanish or German you can do so by choosing that language on the first screen presented to you. You can also choose to change the language of communication from the Main Menu at any time. For the beginning and intermediate student the program permits gradual learning and practice of all Spanish modes, tenses and persons of all regular verbs as well as a few of the most frequently used irregular verbs. This is done through 75 lessons in 16 levels of learning. The lessons review increasingly complex verb forms. Each is followed by a practice quiz which is graded and referenced for future reference. For the intermediate and advanced student the program permits graded drills through any of 12000 verbs in any mode or tense at the student's choice. For advanced students as well as teachers and native Spanish speakers and writers, the program makes all the exact forms of more than 12000 verbs instantaneously available. Thus the user gets immediate access to the correct spelling AND correct accents of more than 1,250,000 different words. The program works on ATARI 520ST OR 1040ST, in monochrome or medium resolution color modes. All the notes from the SPANISH VERBS program aply to this program about FRENCH VERBS. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >GERMAN VERB TUTOR™ ------------------- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >GFA_BILD PROGRAM™ ------------------ This program (GFA_BILD) is designed to help the GFA BASIC programmer save a great amount of time and effort in building sophisticated mouse driven programs. All code developed by GFA_BILD (except the author boxes) will work equally on colour (medium resolution) and monochrome monitors. The program assumes that the user is thoroughly familiar with GFA_BASIC and has some experience in programming. One need not however be an expert to use this program it was developed to permit relatively inexperienced programmers to prepare sophisticated applications and advanced programmers to save time. Every part of GFA_BILD was used in the construction of GFA_BILD itself. A boot strap program as it were. Though GFA_BILD is self contained, its output can only be used in conjunction with your GFA BASIC interpreter. GFA_BILD will create ascii files which you can then incorporate into your programs through the MERGE function of GFA BASIC. MENU: -New_menu: The most powerful function of GFA_BILD is this NEW MENU. It will create a complete program shell for you. You simply define each menu heading and subheading and it creates all the procedures to permit the mouse to access each subheading. You can then merge this into an empty GFA BASIC program and test it immediately. BOXES: The box functions of GFA_BILD are: -Alert boxes: this will create the code for an alert box of your choice. Note that this function is quite a simple call in GFA_BASIC. The advantage of using GFA_BILD to develop it, is that it permits testing of line lenght and exact messages directly. -Author boxes: This will create an author box (or any other message which you wish). You can select the size of the box as well as the size and style of the text for each line. The message can be as long as the box will contain. The code generated is the only one which is not automatically corrected for colour (medium resolution) and mono monitor. You should develop separate author boxes for both system, or else use the message boxes option. -Message boxes: This is identical to the Author boxes except that you are given fewer choices for the size of texts. Because of this, the code generated can be used equally well in monochrome or medium resolution. -Radio Button boxes: This is the most sophisticated of the boxes functions in GFA_BILD. It permits you to build a dialog box of any size (up to full screen) and to have as many on/off buttons as the size of the box will accomodate. You can choose the size and style of the text for the title of the box as well as for the label of each button. The code generated is automatically adjusted for colour or monochrome monitor. FILES: Program ANALYZE aids are the next item on the main menu line. -Id_Variables: Will prepare a disk or screen file of all variables in alphabetical order together with a full ordered cross reference to the line numbers where they are used in the program. The CROSS REFERENCER also tells you whether the value of the variable was changed on any line. Since GFA_BASIC does not number lines, a full program listing with line numbers is also generated. -Analyze_Program: Will prepare a disk or screen file of all program functions and/or loops and their line numbers. The line numbers are as defined above. This is an extremely useful programming aid to review the structure of a program. One can choose to review only procedure beginning and end as well as where they are called from. One could also choose to review other loops such as FOR/NEXT, IF/ENDIF, WHILE/WEND etc.. -List on screen: lists any ascii saved file from a disk to the screen.
